An astronaut, a neurosurgeon, and a growing spiritual community

What do astronaut Edgar Mitchell, founder of the Institute of Noetic Science, and neurosurgeon Eben Alexander III, M.D. have in common? They are unafraid to go where few have gone before.

Edgar Mitchell was suspended in space in 1971 as he piloted the command module. With the rotation, he could see the earth, moon, and sun pass by his window every few minutes.

The immensity and serenity of the universe struck me in an entirely new way, out there, suspended between the great blue jewel of earth and the dusky moon we were leaving behind. The setting was perfect. I suddenly sensed the profound consciousness of the universe – how it is completely interconnected and aware –      an absolutely indescribable awareness. My life changed forever. (Edgar Mitchell)

Mitchell’s experience inspired him to create the Institute of Noetic Science (IONS) to continue his exploration.

During a week-long coma, Eben Alexander III, M.D. faced a near death experience that confronted his training and beliefs about the brain and yet his experience on the other side gave Alexander a greater sense of conscious awareness beyond the physical body. His latest book on the subject, Living in a Mindful Universe: a Neurosurgeon’s Journey into the Heart of Consciousness follows his N.Y. Times Bestselling books Proof of Heaven and Map of Heaven.

Like Mitchell and Alexander, Richmond MindBodySpirit is a growing community of folks who loves to explore consciousness. From alternative healers, psychics, mediums, and folks on a spiritual journey, we are open to learn more about this journey on this big beautiful planet.

RMBS is pleased to partner with Central VA IONS Community and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church to present the Living in a Mindful Universe and Into the Heart of Consciousness Event with Eben Alexander, M.D. and Karen Newell, co-founder of Sacred Acoustics, on January 19 and January 20, 2018.
